May 1 – October 31, 2010

Expo Shanghai 2010 China is another major international event held on the land of China, after the Beijing Olympics in 2008/ 2009/ 2010/ 2011/ 2012.

Expo 2010 in Shanghai China is another major international event held on the land of China, after the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Shanghai had a long history with World Expo ever since the participation of Shanghainese merchants in the first World Expo in London in 1851.

So what will Expo 2010 Shanghai deliver to the world? There is no doubt the Chinese people will present to the world a successful, splendid and unforgettable exposition.

Under the main theme 'Better City, Better Life', the Expo 2010 in China will provide a platform for participating countries, regions and organisations to share their experiences of urban development, discuss advanced ideas on cities, and explore new approaches to eco-friendly lifestyles and working conditions as well as sustainable development.

As at 4 June, 2009, 239 countries, cities and international organisations have confirmed to take part in Expo 2010 which is expected to attract 70 million visitors from the Mainland and around the world.

Chinese Pavilions Preview

Let’s preview the three Chinese pavilions from China, Hong Kong and Macau – all fit in the theme of ‘Better City, Betty Life’.

Pavilion China - features a traditional style red architecture called "oriental crown". It is a winning design from a global search which collected 344 submissions. The structure will adopt ecological sound technologies and energy-saving measures. These include the sun-shading design, exterior of the domestic pavilion is a buffer zone for heat or cold, as well as ecological landscaping on the roof could lower energy demands effectively.

Pavilion Hong Kong
Theme - Smart Card, Smart City, Smart Life

I am from Hong Kong and am proud that we will participate in the first Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA) Exhibition at Expo 2010 Shanghai China, which will highlight global best practices in sustainable city life.

Under the theme "Smart Card, Smart City, Smart Life", Hong Kong's exhibition will showcase our innovative approach to improving the efficiency and quality of daily life through the extensive use of smart card technology. The potential of smart card technology through innovation and forward-looking design will also be highlighted in a highly interactive and engaging way.

As a member of Hong Kong, I must say that the Smart Card has become part of our daily life and we have been increasingly enjoying the convenience and improvement of life quality through the Smart Card technology. I would very much like to invite you to come visit our Hong Kong Pavilion at the Expo 2010 Shanghai China.

Pavilion Macau - The Macau Pavilion at Shanghai World Expo 2010 will take the shape of a jade rabbit lantern. The pavilion will be wrapped with a double-layer glass membrane and feature fluorescent screens on its outer walls. Balloons will serve as the head and tail of the ‘rabbit’, which can be moved up and down to attract visitors.

The building will be constructed with recyclable materials and consists of solar power panels and rain collection systems. The design was inspired by rabbit lanterns popular during the mid-autumn festival in south China in ancient times.
